Low emission baby monitors to keep your baby safe

Keeping Baby Safe with the Best Low-Emission Baby Monitors

An essential item on almost every baby registry is a baby monitor. How else will you be able to ensure baby is safe in their nursery while you relax in your own room? While absolutely essential, special considerations must be taken when selecting the monitor to place on your registry. Low-emission baby monitors are a must and here is why!

Dangers of Using Baby Monitors

If you have hopped on any mommy group on Facebook, you may have found numerous baby monitor-related stories. What do these stories consist of?

Strangers hacking into baby monitors and watching or talking to children. There is nothing more terrifying than reading stories similar to this! If you are a mother, you might agree!

While there are several aspects of today’s monitors to celebrate like two-way communication or the ability to zoom, tilt, or pan the room, there are also serious dangers too.

Other than these horrifying stories, there are also other dangers to consider as well.

Many of today’s monitors use DECT or FHSS which operate on the same frequencies as our microwaves, Wi-Fi routers, and more. While this doesn’t seem to be a big deal. It is.

These monitors can emit strong bursts of this radiation when they are turned on. Studies have shown significant health-related impacts when exposed to this type of radiation such as:

  • Sleep cycle disruption
  • Impacts on the brain, immune system, and reproductive system

What is EMF Radiation?

EMF stands for Electric and Magnetic Fields. These are invisible areas of energy associated with the use of electrical power (so… everything we use in today’s world!).

What are the Possible Side Effects of EMF Radiation?

As we briefly stated above, there are several possible side effects of being exposed to EMF radiation. None of which we want baby to experience! These can include:

  • Impacts on brain development
  • Impact on the immune system
  • Impact on the reproductive system
  • Sleep cycle disruption

Are There Safe Baby Monitors on the Market?

YES! To avoid DECT and FHSS technologies in your baby monitor, you will want to look into purchasing a low-emission baby monitor. These types of monitors can fall under two different categories. Both are great options so if you happen to find one or the other and fall in love, go for it! There is one, however, that is preferred to the other. But… as I said, either will do just fine for your little one and keep them safe!

Low Emission Analog Baby Monitors

These are the low-emission baby monitors that are preferred. Why? Analog monitors typically only use the 49 MHZ frequency band. This is much lower than the 1.89-2.4 GHz frequency that other digital monitors use. Unfortunately, these monitors do not offer video monitoring which can be a huge downfall for many parents. We all like to physically see baby, right?

Low Emission Digital Baby Monitors

If physically seeing baby on a monitor is your jam, this may be the route to go! Thankfully, there are a few great options for low-emission digital monitors on the market. There are some things to consider when going this route though. While you may be able to see baby, it may not be as clear as traditional digital monitors which can be annoying for some parents. There can also be signal issues which can be stressful. However, these monitors are still a great choice for a low-emission option that still provides visibility of baby.
